Today’s Apple Launch event was exciting and concurrently disappointing. The iPhone X, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, Apple Watch Series 3 and Apple TV 4K were all unveiled. Although the new Steve Jobs Theatre was an awesome venue, the products themselves lacked the “wow-factor” that I was expecting. For starters, the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus offer little more than the iPhone 7 Plus. Wireless charging and 4K 60FPS were the only “upgrades” that I saw. iPhone X is a radically-new design without a home button. It touts a “Super Retina” display and facial recognition. It still has the silly Lightning port though. Why didn’t they include a USB-C port instead? Apple Watch Series 3 now comes with a cellular option. That is convenient, if worn while jogging, etc. when carrying a phone also would not be optimal. Don’t expect to make long-duration phone calls from the Apple Watch 3 though, as the battery is still small. Apple TV 4K brings 4K to Apple TV but many 4K SmartTVs already come with built-in apps for Netflix, Amazon, etc. I wanted more from today’s Apple Launch Event! I am exciting about downloading iOS update, WatchOS update and Mac OS X High Sierra update for my existing Apple devices though! Maybe the iPhone X signals where Apple is heading and the next version of iPhone and Apple Watch will feature solar recharging. I also want USB-C on iPhone instead of Lightning. I’ve worn out a countless number of Lightning cables but then again, with wireless charging, there shouldn’t be the need to plug and unplug the iPhone as frequently.
