  • Runtimes of any UPS will vary based on the amount of power required by your connected devices.

  • Yes, when adequate power is restored to the UPS and is within the operating voltage range of the UPS, it will revert o passing utility power to connected electronics.

  • This Back-UPS has a typical transfer time of 6ms to 10ms to switch to battery power when the main power goes out. The transfer time is fast enough that most devices will not experience a power drop when the UPS transitions to battery power.

  • In order for your UPS to get the best power available, it should be plugged directly into the wall outlet. Plugging your UPS into a surge protector may cause the UPS to go to battery often when it normally should remain offline.

Reliable Battery Backup and Surge Protection
    4 out of 5 stars
Reliable Battery Backup and Surge Protection
I have bought three of these and used them for a long time. None of them have failed on me. APC is probably the industry standard for these sorts of backup power strip UPS products. While I have owned larger, this particular model is rather compact and can even sit atop a CPU enclosure if needed or can be squirreled behind a server rack.My criticism of this APC model has to do with plug capacity. For a product this size there could be more and the plugs provided should all be battery + surge protected, not just some. This is biggest drawback to this particular APC model. Given its outlet capacity, one might find themselves feeling like they are compromising what will be battery protected vs not - and when a computer stays alive but a it’s monitor does not in a power loss - that’s an annoyance to be sure. These APC models have a slight hum to them but nothing too terribly noticeable. They are mostly rugged and seem to hold up well. They are simple to set up for the non IT specialist and fit well into any home office setting.

I have four of these units backing up a wifi network, among other things. They've worked very well through numerous power outages and life wouldn't be nearly as pleasant without them keeping things up and running. One thing I discovered: the instructions say that the battery is not serviceable. I would certainly agree that during the lifetime of the unit, you should use it precisely as the instruction say. After about 5 years, the battery in my first one finally failed and the unit let me know in no uncertain terms - squealing loudly and blinking at me, as was correct. Rather than recycling the UPS or paying to ship it somewhere for service, I unscrewed the base (4 screws) and pulled it apart. Lo and behold, a standard sealed lead-acid battery available anywhere online for less than $20, and it will plug right in. The UPS does work very, very well and all for a reasonable cost. I recommend it with no reservations.

Bought 2 for PCs and printer in my house. Worked fine for about 2 years then one started beeping continuously once in a while and needed a hard reboot to stop. Still worked fine most of the time until close to the 3 year mark and then wouldn't stop alarming while powered. Got a different backup at that point. The second one died at the 3 year mark in the same way. Seems from the comments that this is a pretty standard amount of time for them to live.

great surge protection, worked as intented for 7 years straight. I plug my cpap sleep machine into it so I juist picked up a new one, figured I'm better off with a brand new surge protection since here in south jersey I get surges all the time. I've replaced batteries on other apc products though so plan to use this one for some plant lights that I always have to reset the timer on with every power outtage. Just won't use it for sensitive equipment since its so old now and the surge protection is probably worn out.

Purchased one of these APC battery backup units 4-5 years ago and it has performed great. In the event of a power outage, would carry my modem, router, and a couple other small devices for over an hour if necessary. After 5 years, I believe the battery life begins to desegregate, so proactively replaced the old unit with another APC product.

Many of the negative reviews imo aren't really understanding that this is a cheap UPS. If you want a UPS that auto turns off your PC during outages, has longer batter life, can handle higher voltage, etc, then you're 100% looking at the wrong UPS! This UPS does exactly what it claims. It's a small UPS you should use more as a surge protector and to handle small power outages. It's cheap for a reason, though when you actually get a hold of it, I was impressed by the quality it felt like in this price range. I've bought various UPS's over the years. Some are very expensive, where some I got for $50 like this. When I buy cheap ones like this, it's usually to handle my home lab switches or router. I use this for things that don't take much power. If you have a low end PC or a laptop, this would also be perfect for you. By low end, I majorly mean your GPU doesn't hog a butt load of energy. If you're using 2 GPU's, or you have something like a 3090, then you may need to think about getting a UPS that can handle something bigger. But this in my opinion is a fantastic UPS. It delivers quite dang well for this price range. Seriously, it's a really good UPS and I think this is the 4th one I've bought so far. Not that any have broke, I just have a lot of UPS's (I run a business with servers, have a home lab, and more).

And I've ran these little UPS's through the ringer. One of them in particular, I've definitely run more than I should. I put a server on one of them that also has 2 GPU's in the server that mines at the same time (might as well since it's on 24/7 anyways). I'm definitely capping out what this thing was built to handle, yet it handles it like a champ. Again, not saying that this is what you should use this one for haha. But I've been quite happy with this UPS.

But again, most the negative reviews I've seen are people complaining about aspects of this UPS that in my opinion, aren't aspects in any UPS you'll get within this price range. For example, my file server doesn't use that much electricity. But it's mission critical that it never shuts down and that it automatically turns off before the UPS dies. I spent I think like $300 to $400 on a UPS for that server. When I got that expensive UPS, I ran various tests, was quite unhappy, returned it, and replaced it with another within the same price range. I get being picky, I really do, but I also understand the difference in pricing. When I spend $300+ on a UPS, I am looking for various features, battery life, and more. But this UPS imo offers a ton of qualities beyond the small price tag.

So, this was majorly me ranting about the few who disliked the UPS because they expected more, but know I've bought various of these, I'm incredibly happy with them, and for 99.99% of people, I think they'd be perfectly happy with this.

Unit backs up my internet modem and phone box, amounting to about 12 watts on a 450 VA unit.
There are numerous alarm adjustments available, but I just did "plug and play" straight out of the box.
In this way, the UPS is silent when discharging instead of beeping at you constantly as long as the power is off.
Instructions are clear and concise. I'd buy this product again, no problem.

I needed a battery back-up mainly for my router, wireless phones, and NAS. We have fairly frequent power failures and being able to properly shut down the NAS was important because they are expensive and can be easily damaged by power failures. Also, I wanted enough power to my router to be able to go online quickly and check how long the failure is anticipated to last so that we know if we need to haul out the generator and hook it up. Plus, it means we also have power to our cordless phones instead of having to go behind the TV to hook up our old basic phone.
