Backcountry campsite 28 is one of my many favorite backcountry campsites in the Smoky Mountains! Due to bridge construction before the Middle Prong Trail trailhead, our hike in was extended by approximately 1.3 miles. The hike in via Middle Prong Trail was mostly an ascent. We spend the night at backcountry campsite 28 and it started snowing during the night. We hiked out via Lynn Prong Trail, Miry Ridge Trail & Jake’s Creek Trail. Our second vehicle was parked at Elkmont. From start to finish, we hiked approximately 16.2 miles with elevation gain of 3,814 feet. I highly recommend this overnight backcountry campsite in the SMoky Mountains. My suggestion is to hike in via Middle Prong out via Jake’s Creek Trail. Jake’s Creek is almost completely uphill and the scenery is less eventful. During the hike out, we saw about 12 bears where Jake’s Creek Trail run parallel to Meigs Mountain Trail. They look directly at us but were not aggressive and did not approach us. Always be bear aware, while in the backcountry! #SmokyMountains #Backpacking #Backcountry
