Even during warmer weather, backcountry camping at elevation in the Smoky Mountains in often cold. The temperature drops several degrees every thousand feet of elevation gain. During this backpacking trip to backcountry campsite 28, the temperature dropped below zero and it snowed throughout the night. Just because weather seems tolerable throughout the hike in doesn’t mean that it will remain hospitable throughout the night and the next day. I cannot emphasize how important it is to be prepared. The is no “turning back” while backpacking. Enjoy, share and check out my other Smoky Mountains backpacking videos too! #Backpacking #SmokyMountains
