This is a great storage solution for anyone that requires a large amount of storage (video editors, photographers, etc.) or simply for someone that wants to better future-proof their external storage today. It contains 8 bays that will support either 3.5 inch or 2.5 inch SATA hard drives. I added four hard drives to mine initially and will be adding more, as the demand for more disk space arises. I use the USB 3.0 interface for my iMac with Retina 5K Display computer but this enclosure also features an east port. it’s compatible with either a Mac or a PC. Since I placed the enclosure on my desk, the rubberized feet basically eliminate noise and vibration. The unit has a built-in fan and its operation is very quiet. There are LEDs that indicate the status of each of the 8 hard drives. There is also a power on/off button the the front of the unit. To have such a large hard disk capacity, the unit is a minimal size. The front door closes and gives it a sleek look. When opened, the hard drive sleds are easy to remove. It shipped with plenty of screws to connect up to 8 hard drives. The fact that they included a United States style power cord, as well as several international style power cords was a nice touch! It also came with a USB 3.0 and east cable. In addition to that, it included an eSata connector that could be mounted in the back of most PCs! With 8 bays, this external hard drive enclosure will hopefully last me for a long time! I use it for my TimeMachine backup. It’s USB 3.0 with UASP, so if more than fast enough for video editing and other complex tasks. This does not have RAID but I don’t need RAID. I created a concatenated disk set within Mac OS X Disk Utility and created what appears as one large drive to Mac OS X, using the 4 hard drives that I currently have installed. As I add more physical hard drives, I can simply add them to that concatenated disk set to increase its size! This is a super convenient, well-designed and affordable mass storage solution. It looks very nice alongside my other computer equipment on my desk.
