This is how to size a tankless water heater. Sizing a tankless water heater isn’t difficult and within this video, I explain step-by-step how to size a tankless water heater. The main thing to remember is the worst-case scenario, when multiple faucets may be in use simultaneously. In a house with three showers and three people, it’d be important to account for all three showers running at the same time with enough capacity remaining to also provide hot water to the kitchen sink. In reality, all three people will likely not be showering at the same time but sizing the tankless water heater properly should prevent cold water, if all three showers are running at the same time. Many faucets and showerheads have “GPM” written on them but keep in mind that someone may have removed the water flow restrictor and and may actually use more GPM of water. For that reason, use a bucket and a timer as I mentioned within this video to establish an accurate gallons per minute flow rate for each faucet and showerhead.
