Hiking is bear country is fun but can be dangerous, if the appropriate precautions aren’t proactively taken. Something as simple as eating a meat stick and then carrying the wrapper in a backpack could attract a hungry bear. For that reason, I store all meat stick and other snap wrappers inside of a water bottle while hiking. A sealed water bottle will likely eliminate a lot of the smell. While in my tent for the night, I suspend ALL gear that could potentially have a scent from a bear pulley system. Bears are not typically aggressive but being foolish with food and other scented items like toothpaste, chewing gum, etc. can attract bears! #Bears #Backpacking #SmokyMountains #Backcountry
